CHARLES SIMPSON-BROWN

Paralegal

Charles Simpson-Brown has felt the call of the law for many years.  In high school he interned with the homicide bureau at the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office.

“That was a real eye-opener for me,” he says.  “Being right there, watching the legal system play out, I realized how important the law is — what the laws are, how they’re applied, and how much good I could do if, one day, I became an attorney.”

Today he is just a few steps from that goal, as a law student in his final year at the CUNY School of Law.

Simpson-Brown is a member of the Human Rights/Gender Justice Clinic, where he studies reproductive justice and international gender-related law, and he is a scholar with the NY Pro Bono Scholars program, where he provides legal services to indigent clients in landlord/tenant disputes.

Not to mention, he’s studying hard for the NY bar exam, which is coming soon in February 2024.

Simpson-Brown began his legal journey at John Jay College in New York, where he majored in criminal justice and did research on the procedures of the American courts.  “I became fascinated with the court system, going back all the way to Marbury v. Madison and Dred Scott,” he says.  “The system set up by our Founders is clearly flawed.  But it’s improving.  And I could be part of making it better for families.”

After graduation, Simpson-Brown worked at Gorlick Kravitz & Listhaus, a prominent family law firm in Manhattan.  As one of the firm’s top paralegals, he conducted extensive research on high-profile cases, assembled briefs, and prepared the team for deposition.

Our office linguaphile, Simpson-Brown connects with clients through his love of languages. He speaks English, Spanish, and has been strengthening his Chinese and Japanese.

Outside the office walls, you’ll find him jogging through the East Village and demonstrating his devastating jump shot for onlookers at Tompkins Square Park.
